Last Thursday was the Huffman Hill Climb which is part of the hill climbing series that is sponsored by the Arctic Bicycle Club here in Anchorage, AK. The weekend prior was the Tour of Anchorage which is a 4 day, 5 stage road racing event that I participated in so I was a little apprehensive about the Huffman Hill Climb.
After work, myself and Kenny Steck went over to my house as I needed to change and pick up my bike. The start of the race was about 20 minutes away at the southern end of Potter Marsh. We biked over to the start to get warmed up. After arriving to the start, getting checked in, and listening to the pre race meeting, it was time to get to the starting line and let the fun begin!
The nights course starts beside the Potter Marsh parking lot and heads out along the old Seward Hwy to Rabbit Creek Road, after making a right and merging, the road steadily climbs and turns into hillside drive in which you traverse the hillside and make a right towards the Glen-Alps parking lot on Upper Huffman. When you initially turn onto Upper Huffman there is a stout pitch which eventually mellows out and ends at the Upper Huffman parking lot at the base of Chugach State Park.
It was a great night to be on the bike and my legs reminded me that they have not completely rested. There was a great turn-out and it was another fun night on the bike!
